Alumni Dinner and Conference
The Faculty will be holding two events for its alumni in April 2012: a dinner on the evening of Friday 13 April, and a conference on Saturday 14 April.
The dinner on Friday 13 April will be held in the Grand Hall of Balliol College, with pre-dinner drinks in the Fellow's Garden (weather dependent!), and will be a formal three-course meal followed by coffee and mints. The dinner will be followed by a short lecture from one of our current academics, and will cost £45 to attend. Alumni may also book a place for one guest.
On Saturday 14 April, we will be holding an all-day conference in the St Cross Building, featuring a range of talks from our current academics and a sandwich lunch. The conference will cost £20 to attend, and, as with the dinner, alumni may also book a place for one guest. Among the academics speaking will be:
- Dr Laura Ashe, on "The Birth of Romance"
- Professor Charlotte Brewer, on the Oxford English Dictionary
- Professor Deborah Cameron, on language
- Dr Robert Douglas-Fairhurst, on Charles Dickens
- Professor Daniel Wakelin, on “Lacketh a verse: fixing English literature in the late Middle Ages”
- Dr Abigail Williams, on Jonathan Swift
A combined ticket for both events is available for £60.
