Vacancy - Departmental Lecturer in English Literature (1660 - present)

Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Lecturer in English Literature (1660 - present). The appointment will be for a fixed period of 12 months from 1 October 2013 to 30 September 2014 to provide replacement teaching for Professor Fiona Stafford during her tenure of a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship.

Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship, “Celebrity in the Long Eighteenth Century”

A two-year research and teaching appointment for an outstanding academic at an early stage of his or her career, in the Faculties of History, English Language and Literature, and Medieval and Modern Languages. The Postdoctoral Fellow will develop and pursue a research project within the theme “Celebrity in the Long Eighteenth Century”.  Appointment will be from no earlier than 01 September and no later than 01 October 2013.

English academic explores links between classical, Middle Eastern, and African worlds

English Faculty academic, Dr Tessa Roynon, launched a new book of essays today in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Warwick. The book addresses the intellectual interactions between the classical world, the Middle East, and Africa throughout history.

Oxford Centre for Life Writing

Wolfson College gave an official launch to one of a series of research clusters, the Oxford Centre for Life-Writing (OCLW), with an inaugural lecture and launch party held at 6pm on 15th November.

Times Good University Guide

We're delighted that the 2011 Times Good University Guide has placed the Oxford English Faculty top of its rankings. Oxford University as a whole was also ranked top, and you can view the story on their website.

The Guide is available here, although is only accessible by those who have paid for access to the Times online.

Professor of Poetry podcasts

The Professor of Poetry, Geoffrey Hill's, final lecture of the 2010-11 academic year is now available as a podcast from the Professor of Poetry page. The lecture was delivered on 10 May 2011, and was entitled 'Poetry and Disproportion'.
