Professor Peter McCullough

My research is dominated by two major projects: the sixteen-volume Oxford Edition of the Sermons of John Donne, of which I am General Editor; and a major scholarly biography of Donne's contemporary, Lancelot Andrewes (both for Oxford University Press). An unexpected by-product of the latter is work also in progress as a book on Andrewes' college contemporary, Edward Kirke, sometimes said to be the 'E.K.' of Spenser's Shepheardes Calendar. I use historical sources and methodologies to reconstruct detailed contexts for interpreting and editing early modern religious lives, institutions, and texts.

I welcome enquiries from potential post-graduate students interested in supervision in early modern religious writing, textual editing, biography, and history of the book.
