Departmental Lecturer in English Language and Literature

Grade 7: £31,604-£33,518 per annum

The Faculty of English Language and Literature, in association with Pembroke College, is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer. This is a 12-month fixed-term research and teaching appointment in English Language and Literature. The purpose of the post is to cover the teaching of Professor Lynda Mugglestone, who will be on research leave funded by the Leverhulme Trust during the 2018-19 academic year. The appointee will be expected to provide undergraduate teaching on a range of topics in English language for the English Faculty and Pembroke College, and will also teach early medieval literature (c. 650-1350) to undergraduates of Pembroke College.

It is anticipated that the appointee will take up their post on 1 October 2018.

The postholder will be expected to provide 8 hours of undergraduate tutorial teaching per week for the College, and up to 16 hours of Faculty lectures or classes per year. The main focus of the Departmental Lecturer’s Faculty teaching responsibilities will be undergraduate lecturing on English language. They will also undertake dissertation supervision, examining, and the normal duties of a college tutor, including admissions.

The successful candidate should have a research and publication record in English language, and must possess (or be near to completing) a doctorate in an appropriate area. They must also have experience of undergraduate teaching and possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
