Supervisor: Professor Ankhi Mukherjee
Research Interests: Speculative fiction, urban studies, refugee literatures, the politics of representation, gender studies, decoloniality, ‘world’ literatures, and feminisms. I am also the PI of the Futures Thinking TORCH network.
Doctoral Research: My thesis explores the possibilities for thinking through the social incoherence of urban inequality through a literary studies approach, looking in particular at contemporary speculative fiction. I incorporate urban studies and urban sociology theory with close reading to critically analyse the political imperatives for social amelioration in speculative fiction texts by authors such as China Miéville, Kazuo Ishiguro, Lauren Beukes, Mohsin Hamid, Kim Stanley Robinson, Octavia E Butler, and Paolo Bacigalupi.
