Dr Ceri Hunter

My main area of interest is nineteenth-century literature and culture, with particular focus on the novel.

I am currently writing a monograph on cousin marriage in the Victorian novel. Authors under consideration include the Brontës, Dickens, Gaskell, Collins and Hardy.

In 2016-17 I was a postdoctoral research assistant for the ‘Unsilencing the Library’ knowledge exchange project. My work for the project involved researching the nineteenth- reception of women’s writing, and the culture of imitation books.

I teach nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature at Oxford. This usually means Prelims Papers 3 (1830-1910) and 4 (1910-present), although I have also taught on Austen for Final Honour School Paper 5 (1760-1830). I have supervised undergraduate dissertations on Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë and George Eliot.
