We are working on a project called ‘Narrative and Intervention’ and my role is to write up the research into a paper for publication in the Journal of South African Studies in 2023. We are developing a pedagogical toolkit for a story-telling intervention, building on the findings of workshops led by Professor Boehmer at the universities of Oxford, Cape Town and Namibia. This project is funded by Accelerate Hub, an interdisciplinary research hub working to identify evidence-driven ‘accelerators’ that can improve the lives of children and adolescents in resource-limited settings.
I am also currently employed by Oxford University Press to write entries for the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. My research interests are focused on forms of life-writing and the genre of the essay. I am particularly fascinated in the autobiographical elements of essay-writing, both as subject of study and as critical practice. My MSt research was about identity and form in Charles Lamb’s essays. I hope to explore at PhD level the range of contemporary writers exploring the intersection between essay and memoir, such as Maggie Nelson and Claudia Rankine.
