Professor Peter Davidson advises on the Paddington film set

paddington thank you postcard

Professor Peter Davidson recently received a postcard from Paddington Bear, thanking him for his help with the set for the upcoming film Paddington in Peru.

Professor Davidson looks after the picture collections at his college, Campion Hall, which include a number of remarkable hybrid works from Peru depicting angels with the clothes and weapons of baroque musketeers, as well as angelic wings, and the plumes of Inka wind-gods.

The set designers for Paddington in Peru approached Professor Davidson in the summer for more information on these paintings, and on Peruvian art more generally. They also sought advice on replicating versions of them for the set of the Home for Retired Bears, which they envisaged as a Peruvian convent. Once shooting is complete, the replicas will be gifted to Campion Hall, where they will adorn student rooms.

We look forward to seeing the replica paintings in the film when it’s released!
