The English Faculty is deeply saddened by the death of Tiana Milacic, a graduate student in early modern English literature, who died suddenly on 1 September 2026, aged 22.
Tiana came to Oxford for the MSt in English (1550–1700) in 2025-26, following undergraduate study in English Literature at the University of Toronto. An accomplished young scholar, she had been awarded Clarendon Fund and Merton College funding to continue at Oxford as a DPhil student.
Tiana’s research centred on women’s participation in the literary and print cultures of the Restoration. Her excitement about this work was palpable and infectious, and she embraced the many idiosyncrasies of Oxford with equal, wholehearted delight.
Tiana’s death, at the beginning of a scholarly career of great promise, is a profound loss. She will be greatly missed by those who studied, taught, and worked alongside her in Oxford, and our thoughts are with her parents, family and friends.
