Medieval Studies Group perform Medieval Mystery Plays

On Saturday 27 April 2019, graduate students and Faculty members from English took part in a performance of medieval mystery plays – plays in fifteenth-century English based on the Bible. Others were performed by students of medieval topics in other Faculties across the University, as well as by groups from local schools, amateur drama groups and from UCL.

Faculty members in English performed the story of Noah, from the plays of Wakefield, in Middle English pronunciation: https://youtu.be/tuG7K9I-VEw. The readers were Jeremy Dimmick, Vincent Gillespie, Francis Leneghan, Nicholas Perkins, Helen Leith Spencer and Annie Sutherland. There were images and gifs based on medieval manuscripts made by Daniel Wakelin.

Undergraduate and graduate students in English performed the second play about the shepherds of the nativity, also from Wakefield: https://youtu.be/nRFa8ITuz4I. The actors were Eleanor Baker, Alex Bridge, Cosima Gillhammer, Sigrid Koerner, Rebecca Menmuir, Kathryn Peak, Rowan Wilson – and Florrie the Dog (not a current student).
