The 2022–23 Sir Roger Newdigate Prize has been awarded to Nicholas Stone (Harris Manchester College). Nicholas said: "I am over the moon to win this award. I am very grateful to the judges for their consideration of my work, and to Oxford for being an ideal place to learn how to write poetry." The Sir Roger Newdigate Prize is awarded for the best composition in English verse not exceeding 300 lines in length.
The judges, Dr Erica McAlpine, Professor Alice Oswald and Professor Helen Small, commented: "The theme this year was 'Outermost' and this poem peered to the outermost edge of vision as a way of describing innermost worlds. We thought it was intriguingly well-crafted."
