Congratulations to Maia Seren Williams (Jesus College), who has been awarded this year’s Sir John Rhŷs Prize for her essay: 'Is there any critical purchase in viewing the Fourth Branch of The Mabinogi as a mythological tale?'
Maia commented: "I am delighted to be awarded this year’s Sir John Rhŷs Prize for my essay examining the mythology in an alternative ending of Math uab Mathonwy. It is particularly meaningful to receive this prize for research I conducted on a tale which is deeply connected to where I am from. I am very grateful to the judges for selecting my essay, and to my tutors for their ongoing support. Diolch yn fawr iawn."
The Sir John Rhŷs Prize exists to promote the study of Celtic languages, literature, history, and antiquities. It is administered by the Trustees of the Rhŷs Fund. Candidates are free to choose their own subject.
