A chapter in the edited volume "Pop Beckett: Intersections with Popular Culture", edited by Paul Stewart and David Pattie, published by ibidem at Columbia University Press. This chapter interrogates precisely why and to what effect the HBO show "Game of Thrones" uses self-conscious allusions to Beckett's writing. I suggest that drawing on Henry Jenkins’s model of fandom as the engagement with an admired text “as a basis for [one’s] own cultural creation” (Jenkins 1992, 18) allows us to evaluate this particular televisions series's engagement with Beckett's writing, but also to interrogate our own academic engagement with Beckett's work as new examples of fandom practice. https://cup.columbia.edu/book/pop-beckett/9783838211930
