One-year Stipendiary Lectureship in English Literature (Balliol College)

Balliol College is recruiting an eight-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in English covering 1760 to the present day. This is a fixed-term post for the period 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026 to cover a period of sabbatical leave.

The post is intended to provide an excellent teaching academic with opportunities to practice and develop their skills while gaining experience in academic administration.

The specific teaching requirements will be, in the Oxford English syllabus, for Prelims (Year 1), paper 1B (introduction to literature), paper 3 (1830−1910) and paper 4 (1910-present), and for the Final Honours School paper 5 (1760−1830).

Candidates will hold, or be close to completing, a doctorate, be able to provide excellent small group teaching, and to undertake administration as required. Previous experience of teaching, and of small group teaching, would be an advantage.
