Thesis Title: The pleasures of translation: what translations can bring to our reading of Proust’s Recherche
Supervisor: Prof. Matthew Reynolds
Research interests: Modern and contemporary literature, translation studies, literary theory, poetry (especially contemporary Scottish poetry), French studies, theories of reading, empathy, Christian socialism
Doctoral Research: My research broadly looks at English translations of Marcel Proust’s A la recherche du temps perdu, focusing on what is gained in translation, rather than what is lost. My research is funded by the Open-Oxford-Cambridge Doctoral Partnership and Trinity College, Oxford. I have taught seminars on literary theory, modernist literature, and French translation, and also co-organised the conference 'Fictions of Retranslations: Retranslating Language and Style in Prose Fiction'.
