Head of Administration and Finance – Sadie Slater

Sadie leads the Faculty's administrative team and is responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day non-academic management and administration of the Faculty. Working in close partnership with the Faculty Board Chair and other senior academic staff, Sadie plays a key role in the Faculty's strategic and operational planning, designing and implementing Faculty policies and procedures and ensuring that the Faculty meets divisional and University requirements.

Sadie is secretary to the Faculty Board and Planning, Personnel, and Resources Committee.

English Faculty Office

Chris Bayliss – Operations Manager

Chris provides support to the Head of Administration and Finance and is secretary to the Operations Committee and Equality & Diversity Committee, and is involved in arranging many of the special lectures hosted by the Faculty. Chris is also responsible for health and safety matters within the Faculty (including DSE assessments), management of the St Cross Building offices and rooms, co-ordination of IT support and purchases, and maintaining the faculty teaching registers. She is an LGBT+ Ally.

Rosalind Mitchell – Office Manager

Rosalind provides support to the Operations Manager and manages the English Faculty Office Administrative Team.  She oversee the overall running of the office including administration of the faculty's Discretionary membership scheme, the Maxwell & Meyerstein fund, Lecture lists,  and events.

Hope Lukonyomoi – Administrative Assistant

Hope is responsible for providing general administrative support to the Faculty. In particular, she is responsible for updating and maintaining the English Faculty website, administering the Faculty's Discretionary Membership schemes, as well as the Maxwell & Mayerstein Fund applications.  Hope also assists in preparing and sending the weekly Newsletter and the What’s On event listing for English-related events taking place in Oxford.


Finance Team

Amy Barker – Finance Officer

As Finance Officer, Amy is responsible for the smooth running of the Faculty’s day to day finances. This includes administering research grants, providing advice on matters relating to casual payroll, reviewing and approving Faculty allowance requests (under £500), assisting with academic conference set up and administration, and budget setting and forecasting.

Academic Administration

Zoë Hart – Education Manager

Zoë is the Education Manager for the English Faculty, and works with the academic administration team to ensure the smooth operation of the Faculty’s activities, including admissions, undergraduate and graduate taught and research programmes, and undergraduate access and outreach work. Zoë is responsible for driving continuous improvement in education-related areas, and providing strategic advice and guidance to faculty and administrative colleagues. She is also secretary to the Teaching Committee.

Andy Davice – Academic Administrator

Andy provides support to the Directors of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies and Admissions, and is Secretary to the English & Modern Languages Joint Schools Committee and the Graduate Joint Consultative Committe. He manages Graduate Admissions and FHS exams.  He is Disability & Welfare Coordinator for Graduate and Undergraduate students at the English Faculty, so please talk to Andy regarding any health or disability related concerns.

Emily Richards – Graduate Studies Officer (PGR)

Emily is responsible for the on-course administration of the DPhil, including transfer and confirmation of status and the processing of all graduate forms such as suspension of status, extension of time and appointment of examiners. She responds to queries from current and prospective students.

Lis Allen – Academic Administration Officer

Lis assists with all aspects of taught-course administration, including organising induction sessions, recording and confirming option choices and maintaining student records. She also acts as secretary to the undergraduate JCC and the Prelims Exam Board.

Nina Crisp – Academic Administration Officer


Nina administers the MSt and MPhil courses, including admissions, essay submissions and responding to queries from current and prospective students.

Kirstie Logan-Fowler - Timetabling and Teaching Support Assistant

Kirstie is responsible for timetabling Faculty teaching, and for creating the termly Lecture List and Guide. She updates and maintain Canvas and Panopto to ensure that the Faculty's online teaching is available. Kirstie is responsible for organising Faculty events, seminars and special lectures, as well as administering the English Faculty’s prizes.   

Tara Hathaway – Academic Administration Assistant

Tara supports the FHS Chair and Academic Administrator in managing FHS exams, processing student assessments and responding to queries from current Finalists about exams. With the rest of the Academic Administration team, she also supports the Graduate Admissions process.




HR, Communications, Outreach and Other Roles

Farishta Mirbacha Naderi – HR Administrator

As the HR Administrator, I provide support for all aspects of the employment life cycle at the Faculty. This includes managing the administration of recruitment exercises, implementing University HR policies and procedures, processing new appointments, including preparing standard letters of appointment and contracts (permanent, Fixed term or casuals), and ensuring that all relevant right to work and occupation health checks are completed.

Katy looks after all communications activity at the Faculty, including maintaining and updating the English Faculty website, promoting public events, managing our social media channels, and overseeing internal communications. 

Kimberly Glassman – Outreach Co-ordinator

Kim looks after the Faculty’s outreach activities, including organising school visits, coordinating open days, and managing a team of wonderful student ambassadors. Kim also runs the Faculty’s Twitter account (@EngFac-Outreach).

Research Support

Rachel Byrne - Research Support Officer 


Rachel provides support and assistance to Faculty members and researchers. She provides advice about internal funding opportunities and offers support with funding applications. She is also secretary to the Research Committee.

Helen Appleton – Research Facilitator, Humanities Division

Helen provides support and assistance to Faculty members and researchers applying for research grants. She is available to provide advice on funding opportunities and offers support with applications.

Emma-Louise Whitehead – Project Support Coordinator

Emma-Louise is a Project Support Coordinator for the TIDE and TRACTION projects (both led by PI Professor Nandini Das).
