Dr Tess Somervell

My main research area is poetry from the Restoration to the Romantic period. My research interests include: nature writing; ecocriticism; georgic and pastoral poetry; the long poem; time in literature; weather, climate, and climate change in literature and culture; influence, reception, and allusion.

My first book, Reading Time in the Long Poem: Milton, Thomson, and Wordsworth is forthcoming with Edinburgh University Press.

I took my BA at Christ Church, Oxford, and my MPhil and PhD at Clare College, Cambridge. I then held a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Leeds, before joining Worcester College in 2020.

I am Membership Secretary for the British Association for Romantic Studies and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
